Update: Cyanogen has clarified about its partnership with Microsoft. In a blog post titled Microsoft and CM12.1 Nightlies, it said: "We are not bundling or pre-installing Microsoft (or any Cyanogen OS exclusive partner apps) into CyanogenMod."

After much speculation, Cyanogen and Microsoft have finally joined hands. The two companies have announced a strategic partnership which will let Cyanogen integrate popular Microsoft services across its Cyanogen operating system. Cyanogen has already revealed plans to sever its ties with Google completely in the near future.

Under this new partnership, Cyanogen will be to able to distribute Microsoft’s core consumer apps and services including Microsoft Office, Skype, OneDrive, OneNote, Outlook, and Bing services. Microsoft has also given an assurance that it will work towards creating native integrations of its apps and services on Cyanogen OS.

Cyanogen CEO Kirk McMaster who has revaled his plans to take Android away from Google said, “People around the world use Cyanogen's operating system and popular Microsoft services to engage with what matters most to them on their mobile devices. Cyanogen recently came under fire when it abruptly shortened its support for the OnePlus One in India and partnered with Micromax for its Yu devices. While developers across the globe have a divided stand over the ongoing developments, Google still hasn't commented on Cyanogen’s statements.
