The ThinkPad P1 is a thin and light laptop with a 15.6-inch display, while the Thinkpad P72 is considerably heavier of the two and features a 173.-inch display. Both laptops are powered by up to Intel Xeon processors.
Lenovo has added two new ThinkPads to its professional laptop range, the ThinkPad P1 and the ThinkPad P72. Both the laptops are powered by the latest 8th Generation Intel Xeon processors, which means that one can expect workstation-like performance from the devices. Lenovo touts the ThinkPad P1 as its “thinnest, lightest and sleekest mobile workstation” yet as it measures at 18.4mm and weighs at 1.7 kgs. The Thinkpad P72 is the successor to the last year’s P71 and it comes with some noticeable upgrades, both in terms of hardware and design. The two thin and light laptops will go on sale by the end August and the Lenovo ThinkPad P1 will cost $1,949 (Rs 1,35,700 approx), while the ThinkPad P72 is priced at $1,799 (Rs. 125,400 approx).
Apart from the Intel Xeon series of processor, the key highlight of the Lenovo ThinkPad P1 is its slim form-factor, glass touchpad, light-weight design and ‘premium packaging’. The portable workstation is said to be 35 percent smaller and lighter when compared with its predecessors. It sports a black carbon fiber finish and has passed more than 200 quality checks, and 12 military-grade testing requirements.
The laptop features a 15.6-inch touch-enabled display with up to 4K UHD resolution and is powered by up to Intel Xeon E-2176M processor. One can also choose from up to 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8850H 6 core processor. The device includes support for the latest Core i9 CPUs. The processor is paired with the NVIDIA Quadro P1000 and P2000 GPUs and is capable of reaching maximum clock speeds of up to 4.6 GHz.
For memory requirements, it packs up to 4TB of M.2 PCIe storage with up to 64GB RAM, which is clocked at 2667MHz and supports up to 32GB of ECC memory. The company says that it can deliver up to 13 hours of battery life on a single charge. It comes equipped with two Thunderbolt ports, two USB 3.1 Gen 1 and an HDMI 2.0 port. It runs on Windows 10, comes with ISV certifications and supports Bluetooth 5.0 as well.
The Lenovo ThinkPad P72 is priced slightly lower than the P1 but it features a larger 17.3-inch display with up to 4K UHD resolution. It’s not nearly as slim as the P1 as it measures 24.5mm-29.4mm thick and weighs starting at a hefty 3.4 kgs. It is powered by up to Intel Xeon E-2186M hexa-core processor and one can also choose from up to 8th Gen Intel Core i7-8850H processors. As there are options to select from various Intel SKUs, one can also select from up to NVIDIA Quadro P5200 16GB graphics card.
In terms of memory, the ThinkPad P72 comes with up to 128GB DDR4 memory and 6TB of internal storage options. Connectivity options on the laptop include two Thunderbolt 3 ports, three USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, one HDMI 2.0 port, a 4-in-1 SD card reader, and a Mini DisplayPort.
