Apple MacBook Neo could be discontinued soon: Report
Apple took the entire tech community by storm in March this year when it announced its most-affordable laptop till date- the MacBook Neo. The base variant of the laptop starts at Rs 69,900 in India and USD599 in the US. But, as per a latest report, that might not be the case for long. Apple is reportedly mulling over the idea of discontinuing the cheapest MacBook Neo which means that the most-affordable ever Apple laptop might cost higher. Ironic? Probably. Here’s what the rumours are so far.

MacBook Neo base variant to be discontinued?
As per a report in Culpium, Apple might discontinue the base 256GB storage variant of the MacBook Neo. If this report turns out to be accurate, the Neo lineup may soon lose its most affordable configuration.
The base MacBook Neo, as mentioned already, costs Rs. 69,900 and comes with 256GB storage. On the other hand, the 512GB version is priced at $699 globally and Rs. 79,900 in India. It also comes with a touch ID and backlit keyboard, features that are absent in the base model.
Another major reason behind discontinuation of the base MacBook Neo could be the rising DRAM prices. Memory costs have reportedly increased the overall manufacturing expense of the MacBook Neo, putting pressure on Apple’s margins, especially for lower-priced variants.
MacBook Neo supply constraints
The report adds that Apple is now apparently aiming to produce 10 million MacBook Neo units, up significantly from its earlier estimate of 5 to 6 million units. Moreover, it also says that Apple decided to increase production after the laptop saw stronger-than-expected sales following its debut.
During Apple’s April 30 earnings call, Tim Cook confirmed that the MacBook Neo was facing supply constraints. Delivery timelines for some users reportedly stretched up to four weeks as suppliers including Foxconn and Quanta struggled to keep up with demand from manufacturing facilities in Vietnam and China.
