Tips to lower your split AC electricity bill

1. Keep the temperature at 24 degree celcius or above

Many people set their AC to very low temperatures, thinking it will cool the room faster. However, this makes the compressor work harder and consume more electricity. Keeping the temperature between 24 degree celcius and 26 degree celcius is usually enough for comfortable cooling and can help reduce power usage.

2. Use a ceiling fan along with the AC

Running a ceiling fan while the AC is on can improve air circulation in the room. This creates a cooler feeling without lowering the AC temperature further. As a result, you can keep the thermostat at a higher setting and still stay comfortable.

3. Prevent heat from entering the room

Direct sunlight can quickly increase the temperature inside a room, forcing the AC to work harder. Keep curtains, blinds or blackout shades closed during the hottest parts of the day. It is also a good idea to keep doors of uncooled rooms closed.

4. Clean the air filters regularly

Dirty filters can block airflow and reduce cooling efficiency. When airflow is restricted, the AC has to work harder, leading to higher electricity consumption. Cleaning the filters every couple of weeks during summer can help maintain efficient performance.

5. Get the AC serviced and seal air leaks

Regular servicing helps ensure that the AC is running efficiently. A technician can clean important components and check for issues that may affect performance. Also, seal any gaps around doors and windows to stop cool air from escaping.
