5 ways your AC can help control humidity during monsoon

The monsoon season brings relief from the summer heat, but it also leads to high humidity levels. During the monsoon season, your home may feel damp and sticky even when the temperature is not very high. You may also notice an unusual smell due to high moisture. An AC can help manage this problem. Apart from cooling the room, an AC also removes some moisture from the air. However, the way you use your AC can affect how well it controls humidity. Using the right mode, temperature and fan settings can make a noticeable difference. Here are five ways to use your AC to better control humidity during the monsoon.

5 ways AC can help control humidity during monsoon

1. Use dry mode

Many ACs come with a dry mode. It is usually shown with a water droplet symbol on the remote. This mode is designed to reduce moisture in the air. When the mode is enabled, the AC runs differently from its regular cooling mode and removes excess humidity without making the room too cold.

2. Keep the temperature between 24-degree celcius and 26-degree celcius

Avoid setting your AC to very low temperatures, such as 16-degree celcius or 18-degree celcius. Instead, keep the temperature between 24-degree celcius and 26-degree celcius. This allows the AC to cool the room while also removing moisture from the air. It can also prevent the room from becoming uncomfortably cold and may help control electricity use.

3. Use a lower fan speed

Set the AC fan to a low speed when the room feels humid. Slower airflow gives humid air more time to move over the cold cooling coils. This helps moisture condense on the coils before the air returns to the room.

4. Close doors and windows

Outdoor humidity can be very high during heavy rain. Open doors and windows allow humid air to enter the room. This makes it harder for the AC to control moisture. Keep doors and windows closed while the AC is running.

5. Clean the AC filters regularly

Dust and moisture can build up on AC filters during the monsoon. Dirty filters restrict airflow and can reduce the AC’s ability to remove moisture. They may also lead to an unusual smell. It is advised to check and clean the filters regularly.
