Yahoo Hack India: Hyderabad 2013 to be held on July 13-14
HIGHLIGHTS

Yahoo is hosting its first hackathon event outside Bangalore in India this year. The Hack India 2013 begins on July 13 in Hyderabad.

Yahoo has announced its 6th edition of open hack event, Yahoo Hack India, in India will be held in Hyderabad on July 13 and July 14, 2013. More than 1,000 developers from across 20 states had signed up, of which 250 have been shortlisted for the event after an entry-level coding competition.

It’s notable this is Yahoo’s first hack event in Hyderabad. “The company recognizes that India has many tech centers around the country, in addition to Bangalore, so we are planning to expand our open hack program to cover more Indian cities in the future. This year, Yahoo! will host two open hacks in India, one in Hyderabad and another in Bangalore,” says Yahoo in a post.

“Join us Saturday, 13 July 2013 at 08:00 to Sunday, 14 July 2013 at 20:00, for Yahoo! Hack India: Hyderabad. This two-day hackathon will celebrate collaboration, learning and innovation using the world’s top technologies from both YDN and tech partners. Developers from across India will come together to build hacks, learn from experts and play with tech and interactive games,” it adds.

According to Yahoo, the hackers will participate in a series of technical workshops followed by a 24-hour coding hackathon. The event will see hackers taking part in the competition using the latest web tools, services and APIs as well as data from the Internet.

Yahoo kicked off Open Hack as an internal event in 2006 at its headquarters in Sunnyvale, US with an objective to bring developers on board. Yahoo has held its Open Hack in as many as 7 countries, with representation from over 30 countries.

The first Yahoo hackathon event in India was held in 2007, which saw attendance of 180 developers from in and around Bangalore. Last year’s Hackathon saw around 4,000 applications.
