Twitter is simplifying how tweets are presented in timeline, to make conversations clearer.
Twitter has announced a new tweak in its algorithm that will simplify how tweets are presented in the timeline. The new update will help the user by simplifying a long and confusing timeline. Twitter says that the feature has started rolling out to web users on twitter.com today and will be rolled out to mobile apps soon.
According to a blog post by the company, the update will revamp threads and pages which will allow a user to identify the conversation in a simple manner. Each conversation will now be grouped by a line, that will just show a few Tweets in each conversation. Users will have an option to expand a conversation, by clicking on “View other replies” option, similar to the way users can already expand a conversation in their home timeline. Twitter product manager Akarshan Kumar explained in a recent blog post: "Conversations surrounding a Tweet, particularly if they’ve sparked lots of replies and disparate conversations, can be hard to follow. So, we’re doing a few things to make this much easier: grouping conversations together and highlighting some of the most interesting exchanges surrounding a given Tweet right below that Tweet. To surface some of the most interesting conversations, we’ll take factors into account like whether the original account has replied." The company adds that it will “continually be iterating and improving” the new feature and it aim is to “make it easier to understand and participate in conversations on Twitter as well as to find the best, most relevant content we have to offer”.
Facebook had also introduced threaded conversations in 2013. Twitter has also made the move in an effort to simplify its timelines. Twitter recently revamped its home page to engage non users. The new homepage allows visitors to the site to view the latest tweets and trending topics without logging into the website. The site has also introduced a 'highlights' feature and 'while you were away feature' that gives the user a highlight of all the tweets and trending topics that they might have missed since they last logged into the site.
