Apple is preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary on April 1, 2026. Ahead of that, CEO Tim Cook has shared what he believes makes the company unique. In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Cook spoke about the role of people, culture, and the influence of Steve Jobs on the company.
SurveyCook explained that Apple has valuable intellectual property, but the real strength behind it comes from the people who create it. According to him, the two things that are ‘essential’ to the company are people and culture.
‘Yes, we have a lot of intellectual property and so forth, and that is important, but it’s people that create that intellectual property,’ said Cook. ‘It’s the culture that creates the innovation with the intellectual property.’
Cook also pointed out that building such a culture takes a long time and cannot easily be copied by others. ‘I think it’s very difficult to replicate culture,’ he said. ‘It takes a long time, because you have to hire the right people. And then those people have to hire the right people, and you have to build a complete organisation.’

He added that this culture then has to be sustained as technology evolves and life changes. He also described Apple as a party of one. ‘I think Apple is such a unique place, it’s not possible to replicate it,’ he said. ‘I know a lot of different companies, and I think Apple is just in a party of one.’

Cook also spoke about the lasting influence of Steve Jobs and how his ideas continue to guide the company. ‘The principles that (Jobs) laid out for the company’ are ‘still living today,’ said Cook.
