Samsung developing next generation Galaxy Ring that may control other devices, says report
HIGHLIGHTS

Samsung’s new smart ring may control displays on multiple devices wirelessly.

The ring will interact with various screen types, including LCD, LED, and OLED.

The patent reveals the device will track movement using sensors and cameras to sync displays.

Samsung has submitted a new patent, indicating that the company is developing a new smart ring that might manage other devices as well. According to reports, the future wearable device will be capable of connecting two devices, such as a laptop or tablet, and controlling the displays of both devices. However, it is possible that all of the devices must be connected to a single wireless network.

This comes after the South Korean company submitted a patent, which was published by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) on January 30. It discloses that the company is developing a ring-type device that can interface with screens such as LCD, LED, and OLED. The patent also includes three main elements: an electronic device, a second electronic device, and an input device.

How it works

In a schematic shared with WIPO, we can see three devices: laptops and tablets. The third item is a ring-type input device. The process begins by determining the position of the patented device. Following that, the device uses the data to control the screens of one or more electronic devices. The screen(s) will then function depending on the position of the input device, which is tracked via sensors for distance, movement, and camera.

The processors will adapt the displays based on the sensor data, and the software will assist in syncing the output with the movement of the input device.

Using this method, the input device will be able to control many displays. It comprises the display order, content layout, and screen flow. The organization could strive to provide flexibility in terms of screen layout and content delivery.
