Oppo reportedly under pressure to secure Indian manufacturing partner amid govt push
Oppo is yet to decide on an Indian manufacturing partner despite government pressure.

The Indian government is promoting local manufacturing, using Apple’s model as an example.
Oppo is reportedly under pressure to secure an Indian manufacturing partner to produce the device locally. For the unversed, the technology giant has been among the few major Chinese handset brands without a domestic production tie-up. According to a Moneycontrol report, Oppo is currently in talks with several Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) to establish local manufacturing like Vivo. However, the brand is yet to make a final decision even after informal urges from the Indian government to expedite the process.
The smartphone maker has reportedly been in talks with companies such as Micrmax’s associate Bhagwati Products, Dixon Technologies, and Lava International. The report also added that the company is in talks with Tata Electronics. However, the company may face challenges due to its existing partnership with Apple.
“While Oppo continues to look for partners, a partnership with Tata Electronics might face challenges as Apple may have reservations. Ultimately, they will have to do a domestic partnership because of government pressure. There could be an announcement for the Oppo manufacturing facility in the coming months,” a source familiar told Moneycontrol.

The Indian government is urging the company to collaborate with local companies with the aim of increasing domestic influence in the industry. On the other hand, Oppo is reportedly exploring various options due to the mounting pressure from Indian authorities, the report added. It also hints that Oppo may announce the manufacturing partnership soon. The company is currently manufacturing smartphones for its brand along with sub-brands including Oneplus and Realme at its Greater Noida manufacturing facility.
The authorities are focusing on encouraging local manufacturing with the broader goal of developing a self-sufficient mobile phone industry. As per the reports, the government officials pointed to Apple as an example stating how the company is helping the growth of Indian manufacturers by partnering with firms like Foxconn, Pegatron, and Tata Electronics.
