OpenAI has announced that it is retiring ChatGPT Pulse and is replacing the feature with a new scheduled tasks system. According to the company, scheduled tasks are faster, more reliable and easier to manage. While Pulse focuses mainly on delivering daily information, scheduled tasks takes a broader approach. Users can ask ChatGPT to send reminders, handle recurring tasks or keep track of topics that matter to them. ChatGPT can even notify users when there is something important to know.

OpenAI has introduced a dedicated Scheduled page inside ChatGPT. This gives users a single place to manage all active tasks. They can view upcoming tasks, check when they will run next, and pause, resume, edit, or delete them whenever needed. Users can schedule tasks for a specific time or choose broader periods such as morning, afternoon, or evening.

It is important to note that ChatGPT Pulse will be removed in 14 days.

What is ChatGPT Pulse?

ChatGPT Pulse is a proactive feature launched by OpenAI last year to deliver personalised updates to users every morning. Unlike the regular ChatGPT experience, where users need to start a conversation, Pulse automatically gathers information and presents it in a series of easy-to-read cards.

The updates are based on a user’s interests, chat history, feedback and optionally connected apps such as Google Calendar and Gmail. Pulse provides reminders, learning tips, travel suggestions, meeting preparation ideas and updates on topics users follow regularly. It aims to help people stay informed and organised without needing to search for information themselves.

Why is OpenAI removing ChatGPT Pulse?

As OpenAI explains, “Proactive work remains an important part of making ChatGPT more useful. With Pulse, we learned that proactive experiences are most useful when they’re personalised, action-oriented, and steerable by the user. We also saw strong engagement with tasks after introducing them into the Pulse surface, showing that people value having a dedicated place for proactive work.” “We’re bringing those learnings back into scheduled tasks so users can keep getting useful updates and recurring help in a more focused experience.”
