Microsoft is working on two updates codenamed 'Redstone' to the Windows 10 core, that are expected to be released in 2016.
Software giant Microsoft is planning to use codename 'Redstone' for its software update in 2016. The company is planning to release two updates to Windows in 2016, one in the summer and another in the fall, according to sources.
ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley confirms that “Windows Threshold”, is the codename for Windows 10, which will be released in the summer, followed by an other major update in the fall this year. According to reports, Microsoft is planning to roll out new updates codenamed “Redstone” after that, in June and October of 2016, which will be a major update to Windows 10. The Redstone name was first mentioned by Neowin who claims it refers to Minecraft, a game that Microsoft bought last year for $ 2.5 billion.
Reports claim that the 2016 updates will be meant for new hardware and devices that run Windows OS, including the Xbox, Microsoft Band, HoloLens as well as other products that work on the core Windows OS.
Microsoft says that the Windows 10 OS which will be released over the summer will bring ‘enterprise friendly’ features, the return of the ‘Start button’, voice assistant Cortana integration, a new web browser dubbed Spartan to replace the outdated Internet Explorer as well as other improvements to the software.
According to reports, Microsoft is also planning to continue the Windows Insiders program after Windows 10 is released, so Threshold and Redstone updates could be made available to testers before a world wide release.
