Intel has announced that it will no longer be holding its annual Developer Forum conference. The conference was initially scheduled to be held in August in San Francisco. The Intel Developer Forum (IDF) was used by the company to showcase new Intel chip architectures, as well as other developments by the company.

Intel made the announcement via a post on the official IDF 2017 website in which it states, “Intel has evolved its event portfolio and decided to retire the IDF program moving forward. Thank you for nearly 20 great years with the Intel Developer Forum! Intel has a number of resources available on, including a Resource and Design Center with documentation, software, and tools for designers, engineers, and developers. As always, our customers, partners, and developers should reach out to their Intel representative with questions.”

Speaking to Anandtech, the company stated that the main reason for the cancellation of the conference is Intel’s switch from a PC-centric company to a data centric company. It says that with the rise of other fields like AI, IoT, wireless communication, and more, IDF was no longer needed. However, Intel did say that it plans on finding new ways to communicate via targeted events. These would be similar to other events like AI Day, or be connected to partner events.
