Snapdeal and KPMG have released their findings of a study that examined the impact of e-tail on the employment landscape in India. The study, called Impact of Ecommerce on Employment in India, notes that e-tail and allied ecosystem such as logistics, warehousing, IT, ITeS are expected to create direct employment for 1.45 million by 2021. The logistics and warehousing sector is tipped to be the largest contributor to direct employment opportunities in e-tail with 55 percent. The report notes that government initiatives like Make in India, Start-Up India, Skill India will fuel growth and generate further employment in e-commerce.

The report also notes that by 2018-2019, 70 percent of online sellers in India are expected to come from small towns. Further, it was revealed that 20 percent of total online sellers today are women.
