Apple AI Siri overhaul delayed again: Here’s when it may launch

Apple’s long-awaited smarter and more personal version of Siri is reportedly facing another delay. According to Bloomberg, Apple has ‘run into snags’ while testing the new Siri features, which were expected to arrive with iOS 26.4. Because of these problems, Apple now plans to spread the rollout across several future iOS updates instead of releasing everything at once. The company may delay some or all of the new Siri features until iOS 26.5, an update scheduled for May, or even iOS 27, which is likely to launch in September.

For those unaware, the improved Siri is part of Apple Intelligence, which was first announced at the 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference. At that time, the company was expected to ship the new Siri in spring 2025. When spring arrived, Apple admitted the features were not ready and pushed the timeline back by about a year.

More recently, Apple was reportedly aiming for iOS 26.4, an update scheduled for spring 2026. However, internal testing has revealed performance issues. According to the report, Siri sometimes fails to understand requests correctly and can be slow to respond. Apple engineers have reportedly been told to continue testing the features in iOS 26.5, which is planned for May.

Inside iOS 26.5, Apple has included notices about the upcoming Siri upgrades and a preview toggle that enables personalisation. This feature allows Siri to access user data such as messages and emails to provide more helpful responses. Employees testing this version say all the promised features are present, including personalisation, onscreen awareness, and more. Still, accuracy and reliability problems remain.

Apple has also been experimenting with features that were not officially announced. These include image generation through Image Playground and web search summaries.

Bloomberg describes Apple’s plans as ‘fluid,’ which means they could still change. While Apple likely wants to avoid pushing Siri updates past spring 2026, not all features may be ready until iOS 27. That release is expected to bring major upgrades, including chatbot-style conversations to help Siri better compete with services like Gemini and ChatGPT.
