Alert! WhatsApp will stop working on few devices from next month: Is your phone on the list?
HIGHLIGHTS

Starting from May 5, 2025, WhatsApp will no longer support devices running on iOS 15.1 or earlier versions.

The change mainly affects people using the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus.

It’s not clear exactly how many users will be impacted.

If you’re still using an older iPhone and rely on WhatsApp to stay connected with friends, family, or work groups, you might be in for a surprise. WhatsApp, the popular messaging app owned by Meta, will soon stop working on certain older iPhone models. Starting from May 5, 2025, WhatsApp will no longer support devices running on iOS 15.1 or earlier versions.

This change means some users will lose access to their chats, calls, and updates unless they move to a newer device that meets the app’s requirements. If you’re wondering whether your phone is on the list, here’s everything you need to know.

Which iPhones will be affected?

The change mainly affects people using the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, according to reports. While it’s not clear exactly how many users will be impacted, WhatsApp’s decision marks the end of support for these older but once very popular models.

Why is WhatsApp doing this?

WhatsApp regularly updates its app to bring new features, better security, and a smoother experience. Older iOS versions don’t have the modern tools needed to support these improvements. Continuing to work with outdated systems makes it hard for WhatsApp to deliver the best experience to users.

What should you do?

If your iPhone is already running a newer version, there’s no need to worry. Just make sure your phone is updated. You can check this by going to Settings > General > Software Update on your iPhone.

However, if you are still using an iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, or iPhone 6 Plus, you’ll need to start planning for an upgrade.

Good news for Android users. This change only affects iPhones, so you’re safe.
