What is Nvidia GeForce Now

GeForce Now is Nvidia’s cloud gaming service that lets you play PC games without owning a high-end gaming computer.

Instead of running games on your own laptop or desktop, the games run on Nvidia’s powerful cloud servers. The gameplay is then streamed over the internet to your device, whether that’s a Windows laptop, Mac, smartphone, smart TV or a handheld gaming console.

In simple terms, it turns almost any compatible device into a gaming PC, provided you have a stable internet connection.

So, do you get games for free?

In short, no. GeForce Now is not like Netflix, where you get access to an entire catalogue with your subscription. You still need to own the games you want to play or have access to them through supported subscriptions.

The service works with popular platforms such as Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, Battle.net, Ubisoft Connect and GOG. If you’ve already purchased a supported game on one of these stores, you can stream it through GeForce Now without downloading or installing it on your device.

The service also supports subscriptions like Xbox Game Pass and Ubisoft Connect, allowing members to stream supported titles included in those memberships.

Membership plans and pricing

NVIDIA is offering two monthly plans in India.

The Performance plan costs Rs 999 per month, while the Ultimate plan is priced at Rs 1,999 per month.

Gamers who want to try the service before subscribing can also purchase one-day passes. These are available for Rs 399 for the Performance tier and Rs 799 for the Ultimate tier.

Players who participated in the beta programme will receive a 20 percent discount on their first three months of membership once their existing pass expires.

So in a nutshell, the Performance plan is for users looking for a smooth cloud gaming experience at a lower price. On the other hand, the Ultimate plan unlocks Nvidia’s advanced cloud gaming features including higher streaming resolutions, higher frame rates, lower latency and access to technologies such as DLSS 4 and Nvidia Reflex.

So if you’re planning to play fast-paced multiplayer games or want the best possible graphics, the Ultimate tier is designed for that experience.

Should you get Nvidia GeForce Now?

Now if you are wondering whether you should get the service or not, the answer actually depends on how and where you play games.

If you do not own a gaming PC but still want to play demanding PC titles, GeForce Now offers a way to stream supported games without investing in expensive hardware. Since the games run on Nvidia’s cloud servers, compatible devices such as laptops, Macs, smartphones and smart TVs can be used to access them. But, the experience depends on your internet connection. So if you have a stable internet connection and lack access to hardware, this is the perfect way for you to experience the latest AAA games.

That said, do remember that GeForce Now does not include a library of games. So, you will still need to purchase supported titles or have an active subscription to services such as Xbox Game Pass or Ubisoft+.

At last, whether GeForce Now is the right choice comes down to whether cloud gaming fits your needs and whether your internet connection can consistently support it.
