The sequel once again follows Shivam Pandit, played by Emraan Hashmi. Shivam was once involved in the criminal world but has since left that life behind.
His past catches up with him when several children are kidnapped in Thailand. Among them is a baby girl, whom he names Aaliyah. The name holds a deep emotional connection for him as it reminds him of the woman he once loved and lost.

Awarapan 2 was reportedly made with a production budget of around Rs 45 crore. Reports suggest that the film earned between Rs 21 crore and Rs 23.40 crore net in India on its opening day.
The movie was released alongside Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947, which also opened during the Independence Day weekend. The film reportedly collected Rs 5.75 crore net in India on day one. Batwara 1947 features Sunny Deol, Preity G Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Isha Sandhir, Aamir Khan, Abhimanyu Singh, Ali Fazal, Vicky Kaushal and Kanikka Kapur in key roles.
