LG and Dolby announce world’s first FlexConnect soundbar with 13.1.7 channel audio

Dolby Laboratories and LG Electronics have announced the LG Sound Suite, a new modular home audio system. This will be headlined by the H7 soundbar, the world’s first soundbar powered by Dolby Atmos FlexConnect. This tech aims to simplify immersive home audio by removing the need for fixed speaker placement and complex wiring, while allowing users to expand their setup over time. Let’s see how it works:

LG Sound Suite with Dolby Atmos FlexConnect

The LG Sound Suite is built around Dolby Atmos FlexConnect, a technology that wirelessly links speakers to a compatible LG TV and automatically calibrates them based on their position in the room.

Key elements of the system include:

  • H7 soundbar, which can act as the lead device and enables FlexConnect with any TV
  • M7 and M5 wireless surround speakers, with support for up to four units
  • W7 subwoofer for low-frequency output
  • Support for 27 configurations, from a basic two-speaker setup to a full 13.1.7-channel home theatre

What FlexConnect changes

Unlike traditional surround systems that require precise placement, FlexConnect allows speakers to be placed where they best fit the room layout and decor. Although Samsung has a calibration feature called Spacefit Sound Pro, FlexConnect is bigger in scope as it allows any number of wireless speakers and is not limited to Samsung TVs.

LG confirmed that Dolby Atmos FlexConnect will also be supported on its latest premium TVs, with select 2025 models gaining compatibility through a future software update. When paired directly with compatible TVs, users can build a FlexConnect system without needing the H7 soundbar.

TCL was the first to adopt this Dolby FlexConnect tech. Its setup supported only four connected speakers in total, including the subwoofer, and required a 2025 QM-series TCL TV to work. This meant the user had to choose between wider surround coverage and deeper bass.

LG’s implementation takes a broader approach, allowing the soundbar to pair with up to four surround speakers and a dedicated subwoofer, enabling configurations that scale all the way to a 13.1.7-channel system.

It eliminates visible cables, reduces setup complexity, and allows systems to grow gradually, rather than requiring a full investment upfront. The TV handles system-level calibration, adjusting timing, level, and spatial calibration automatically to maintain a consistent Dolby Atmos experience. Sound Suite acts as a bridge between premium soundbars and full home theatre systems, targeting users who want immersive audio without the complexity of traditional AV receivers.

Speaking on the announcement, John Couling, Senior Vice President of Entertainment at Dolby Laboratories, said FlexConnect offers ‘premium sound that adapts to your space without complicated setup.’ Meanwhile, Lee Jeong-seok, head of LG’s Audio Business Division, added LG Sound Suite lets you ‘personalise their setup and enjoy cinematic sound from any seat.’

Pricing and regional availability have not yet been announced. LG will showcase the Sound Suite publicly at CES 2026 from January 6 to 9, where more details on availability and positioning are expected.
