WhatsApp expands its voice chat feature to all group sizes: Here’s how it works

WhatsApp is making it even easier to stay connected with your group chats. The popular messaging app has announced that it is expanding its voice chat feature to groups of all sizes. Earlier, this feature was only available to large groups, but now it’s rolling out to everyone.

“Whether it’s a nail-biting football game, a dramatic season finale or sharing some big news, sometimes you need to talk it out with those available at that moment. That’s why we’re bringing voice chat to groups of all sizes so you can connect live over audio whenever, without having to leave your group chat or switch to a call,” WhatsApp announced.

What makes this feature unique is how quiet and simple it is to use. Starting a voice chat doesn’t ring or notify anyone. Instead, members of the group can see that a voice chat is happening and join in whenever they feel like it.

How to start a voice chat: To start a voice chat, all you need to do is go to the group chat, swipe up from the bottom, and hold for a few seconds. That’s it. The voice chat will begin and stay pinned at the bottom of the group chat screen. This way, it’s always easy to find and access. Group members can join or leave the voice chat freely, making it perfect for casual conversations. You can also see who’s already in the voice chat before joining.

Just like personal calls and messages on WhatsApp, voice chats are protected by end-to-end encryption, the platform said. This means your conversations stay private and secure.
