HIGHLIGHTS

Meta has announced its new Meta Quest software update.

The Meta Quest v57 update includes a new unsend message feature.

It also offers a new Horizon Feed, Avatars update & more.

Meta has announced that it is rolling out a new Meta Quest software update. The Meta Quest v57 update includes a new unsend feature for messaging on the platform, a new and improved Horizon Feed, additional customisation options for Avatars & more.

Few things can be as frustrating as mistakenly hitting the ‘send’ button too soon on a message or sending it to the wrong recipient. That's why Meta is rolling out a feature that allows users to unsend image messages in VR and the Meta Quest mobile app. This feature is currently being rolled out in Australia, Canada, Iceland, New Zealand, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan, and the United States.

“Just hover over the offending image message in VR (or click on it in the Meta Quest mobile app), select “Unsend message,” and poof! It’s like it never happened. You’ll see a confirmation message that you unsent a message, and the recipient will see a notification that a message was unsent for transparency’s sake,” Meta said in a Quest blogpost on September 11, 2023.

Earlier, when putting on their Meta Quest headset, users were greeted with Explore. Now, with the v57 update, Meta is replacing it with a new Horizon Feed.

According to Meta, Horizon Feed is the users’ go-to to find content relevant to their passions and interests. Users will also see new content to explore in this Feed, like games, apps and Reels.

“We’re rolling out Feed gradually across Quest headsets, followed by the Meta Quest mobile app,” the company said.

With v57, Meta is also rolling out new customisation options to its Avatars. Now users will be able to fine tune things like their hair and eyebrow colour, more accurately adjust their skin tone, add makeup and face paint, and otherwise make their VR persona better reflect how they see themselves.

Apart from these new features and updates, Meta also announced that now users can freely teleport throughout their Home space, whether they’re hanging out solo or watching Meta Quest TV content with friends. The company noted that users can not teleport through walls, furniture, or virtual objects like their Avatar Mirror. And also they can’t teleport too close to another person’s Avatar, so no one invades anyone else’s personal space.

“This is your friendly reminder that our software updates roll out gradually. If you don’t see the v57 update yet, remain calm. It’s on its way and should be in your virtual hands soon,” Meta said.
