Elon Musk playfully mocks Meta after Instagram & FB face global outage

On Downdetector, over 6,00,000 users reported about the Facebook outage.

On March 5th, a widespread outage hit Instagram, Facebook and Threads globally, causing disruptions for users worldwide. In response to the outage, many individuals turned to X (formerly known as Twitter) to express their reactions and frustrations. Even X-owner Elon Musk mocked Meta for the outage.

A few minutes later, Elon Musk posted a picture featuring penguins adorned with logos representing Instagram, Facebook, and Threads, all saluting another penguin bearing the logo of Twitter.

On the outage monitoring website, Downdetector, over 6,00,000 users reported about the Facebook outage. On the other hand, Downdetector received more than 95,000 reports for the Instagram outage.

On the Downdetector India website, over 27,000 users reported about the Facebook outage, and more than 36,000 users reported about the Instagram outage.

During the outage, when many users took to X to report the outage, Elon Musk said, “We know why you’re all here rn.”

Even X CEO Linda Yaccarino indirectly mocked the outage and wrote, “Testing, testing… affirmative, everything is functioning smoothly here.”

Now, all services by Meta are working. Meta spokesperson Andy Stone clarified that the outage was caused due to a technical issue.

“A technical issue caused people to have difficulty accessing some of our services. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted, and we apologize for any inconvenience,” Stone wrote in a post on X.
