MacBook Air 2025 available on discount: Should you buy or wait?

Apple’s Apple MacBook Air 2025 was launched in March 2025 and currently sits at the very top of the Air lineup. Powered by the new M4 chip, it promises some meaningful upgrades that go beyond just raw performance. For instance, Apple promises better efficiency under sustained loads, allowing the fanless laptop to stay cool while handling heavier everyday tasks such as photo editing, coding, and long multitasking sessions. Battery life also remains one of its biggest highlights, comfortably lasting through a full workday and then some. And during the current Republic Day sale on Amazon, the MacBook Air 2025 is available at a noticeable discount.

With a 14 per cent price cut, this base variant is priced at Rs 85,990, down from its original price of Rs 99,900. That makes it one of the more attractive Apple laptop deals we have seen in recent months. But the big question remains. Should you buy it now, or is it smarter to wait.

A budget MacBook Air is coming soon

If budget is your top priority and you are not in urgent need of a new laptop, waiting a little longer might actually pay off. Reports suggest that Apple is working on a more affordable MacBook that could launch between March and May this year. This upcoming device is said to feature either a 12.9 inch or 13 inch display, a lightweight chassis, and a simplified overall design aimed at keeping costs down.

To achieve that lower price point, Apple is expected to use an LCD panel instead of its more expensive display technologies. Under the hood, the laptop is rumoured to run on the A18 Pro chip, the same processor that powers the iPhone 16 Pro. On paper, that might sound like a downgrade compared to Apple’s M series chips, but early performance estimates suggest otherwise. The A18 Pro reportedly matches or even slightly surpasses the original M1 in everyday performance and graphical output. That alone puts it well ahead of most budget laptops currently available.

Port selection is expected to be basic, with regular USB C instead of Thunderbolt, and there are also hints that Apple could introduce fun colour options similar to the iMac and iPad. If pricing lands in the USD 599 to USD 699 range as expected, this could become Apple’s most important mass market Mac in years.

Such a device would give iPhone only users a far easier entry into the macOS ecosystem. Apple has been laying the groundwork for this shift for years through deeper iPhone and Mac integration, improved AirDrop, Continuity Camera, and seamless cross device workflows. What was missing was a MacBook that users could justify buying without stretching their budget. This new MacBook could finally fill that gap and bring an entire generation of students into the Mac ecosystem early.

Should you buy MacBook Air M4?

Now coming to the question that everyone has been asking lately – is it smarter to wait or should they buy the M4 MacBook Air during Republic Day sale.

If you want the best MacBook Air experience today and the current discount fits your budget, the M4 MacBook Air is an easy recommendation. But if stretching your spend feels uncomfortable and you can afford to wait, Apple’s upcoming budget MacBook might be worth holding out for. Moreover, if you want to upgrade and go for a MacBook Pro and have no budget constraints, there is good news. Apple might also be bringing an OLED MacBook Pro with touchscreen later this year.

About the OLED MacBook Pro with touchscreen

Apple is reportedly working on a redesigned MacBook Pro with an OLED touch screen, expected to launch in late 2026. Recent reports also claimed that the touchscreen displays have entered production already, signalling that the laptop might even launch sooner than expected.

The OLED MacBook Pro is rumoured to use next generation M6 chips built on TSMC’s 2 nm process, promising major gains in efficiency, graphics, and neural processing. Apple is also said to be shrinking bezels further, moving towards a cleaner hole punch style camera layout, and delivering a thinner and lighter chassis.

An OLED panel would bring deeper blacks, superior contrast, and improved HDR compared to the current mini LED displays. Touch support could unlock new creative workflows and app interactions, especially for professionals who already pair MacBooks with iPads. With Apple’s increasing focus on AI powered features across its platforms, a touch enabled MacBook Pro running M6 silicon could become the ideal foundation for what comes next.

Of course, these upgrades will likely come with a higher price tag. An OLED display, touch support, and a full redesign will not be cheap. Still, this feels like the kind of flagship product that resets expectations for what a MacBook Pro can be. So if you want the absolute best, we suggest waiting a little longer before buying a new machine.
