The new model of the Sony PlayStation 4 has the model number CUH-2200 as compared to CUH-2100 of the previous mode. The change in the second digit suggest that this may be a minor revision in the internal components.
Sony has released a new model of its PlayStation 4 console, and before you ask, NO, there doesn’t seem to be any major hardware update. According to a report by DualShockers, Sony has released a new version of the PS4 Slim with the model number CUH-2200. Previously, the console had the model number CUH-2100. However, there doesn’t seem to be any major hardware or design changes with the new model as the price, weight, size and power consumption of the console is still the same.
The report notes that the fact that the second digit has been changed suggests that the new CUH-2200 model may feature a minor revision in the internal components. DualShockers speculates that there is a possibility that the change is implemented to to lower manufacturing costs. It also notes that if there was some type of a major revision, then the first digit would have been changed. For example, the PS4 Slim features the model number CUH-2XXX, as compared the original PS4’s CUH-1XXX. The last two digits in the code, usually refers to the region where the product will be sold.
The new model should reach markets outside of Japan gradually. This usually depends on stocks of the previous model and the region.
Gamers waiting for a brand new PlayStation console will have to wait till at least 2021 before they can get their hands on a new console. A few months back, the head of Sony’s PlayStation division reportedly said that the next PlayStation is at least three years away.
The Sony PlayStation 4 was launched in India in 2013, while the newer and more powerful PlayStation 4 Pro was launched last year. The PS4 Pro also supports the company’s new VR headset, PS VR. The headset offers 360 degree head tracking, high refresh rates, and integration of Sony’s proprietary binaural 3D audio technology.
