Worried about misuse? Here’s how to check all SIM cards issued on your Aadhaar

SIM card fraud has been rising in India, with scammers often misusing personal information to get SIM connections without the victim’s knowledge. To curb this, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has introduced a new feature on its Sanchar Saathi portal under the TAFCOP (Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection) system. This tool lets users quickly check how many SIM cards are registered under their name.

Since linking Aadhaar with mobile numbers is mandatory in India, the government allows an individual to hold up to nine active SIMs across the country, while in Jammu & Kashmir, Assam and the North-Eastern states, the cap is six. However, with fraud cases becoming more common, users may unknowingly end up with unauthorised SIMs attached to their Aadhaar details.

Here’s how you can check the number of SIMs linked to your Aadhaar

How to check SIMs registered against your Aadhaar

Step 1: Visit the Sanchar Saathi portal sancharsaathi.gov.in.
Step 2: On the homepage, go to the Citizen Centric Services, and click on Know Your Mobile Connections.
Step 3: Enter your 10-digit mobile number along with the captcha code.
Step 4: An OTP will be sent to your number for verification. Enter the OTP.
Step 5: Once done, the portal will then display all mobile numbers registered using your Aadhaar-linked identity documents.

What to do if you find suspicious numbers registered with your Aadhaar

If you come across an unknown SIM registered in your name, you can immediately report it through the portal. The flagged number can be marked as “Not My Number” to disconnect, or as “Not Required” for inactive or unused SIMs. Once reported, the concerned telecom operator will take the required action and deactivate those numbers.

Additionally, users who have more than nine SIMs linked to their Aadhaar will automatically receive an SMS notification, prompting them to review and reduce the number of active connections.
