Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Gaming 3 detailed review

Not a lot of people going in for the Z170 platform would opt for the expensive boards so you have the mid-range offerings coming to your rescue. Gigabyte’s GA-Z170X-Gaming 3 is one such board. It might be placed towards the lower end of the Gaming series but when it comes to features, the board is very much a premium offering. For starters, you have Killer Ethernet and the audio section features a swappable OP-AMP. And if that isn’t enough to soothe your audio woes then the board features USB ports that provide a filtered power supply for external DACs(Digital to Analog Convertor). Also, Gigabyte’s G-connector which is a tool to make wiring the front-panel headers simpler is better than what the competition offers thanks to little locking tabs at the top.

So what’s missing? Well, you don’t have onboard power and reset buttons so it becomes a little irksome for open-air rigs but that’s a minority use-case anyways. Another thing, that we noticed with this board was that the width of the board is a little narrower than other Z170 boards. It’s 235mm wide while other boards are 244mm wide, this reduction costs the user the ability to use the rightmost mounting holes. So you’ll have to be a little careful while unplugging tough connectors like the 24-pin ATX connector. That being said, this board has a good mix of features than make it quite favourable for anyone looking to buy a Z170 board.
