VERDICT:

Oppo Reno11 Pro is your average mid-range smartphone with an above average performance and display. The cameras, sadly, aren’t the best part about this smartphone, but Oppo’s “portrait expert” tagline is still close to accurate.

Oppo Reno11 Pro is the latest mid-ranger from Oppo. The smartphone, launched at a price of Rs 39,999, comes with a lot going for it, but at the same time, doesn’t have anything that would excite an enthusiast like myself. We are getting a very similar package as to what we got last year with the Oppo Reno10 Pro, with incremental upgrades across the board.

But do these incremental upgrades make the Oppo Reno11 Pro a worthy smartphone in the highly-competitive sub-Rs 40,000 segment? In this review, I look at the smartphone’s design, display, performance and software, battery, and camera to find out if the new Oppo Reno11 Pro is worth the investment. Let’s dive in.

Oppo Reno11 Pro Review: Design

Design is something Oppo has always been at the forefront of. Most of the company’s smartphones have been good looking devices, and that trend hasn’t gone anywhere with the latest mid-range series. In fact, this year Oppo has gone a step ahead with the design, giving us yet another looker with new details all around.

So we get the frosted glass back with the Reno11 Pro, but with it, we also get new details. So Oppo says that it has used 3D Etching Process to “create millions of micro-level reflective surfaces on the back cover glass.” This basically means that there is this nice pattern on the back panel which also has a bit of depth to it, giving a bit of a 3D-like look to the back panel. These small shapes that are formed on the back panel look deeper when you throw light on the phone from different angles. Looks nice.

On the back we also have the oval camera module, similar to the Oppo Reno10 Pro. This time, Oppo has gone with a more sober and single-tone silver camera module which houses the triple rear camera setup. Up front, the smartphone has a familiar curved hole-punch display, so nothing special going on around at the front. We do get Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the front glass, so that is good. While we are at design, there is no official IP-rating, but having witnessed Oppo’s rigorous waterproof testing in person, I am sure that a little bit of water and sand won’t do anything to the Reno11 Pro.

So overall, in true Oppo fashion, we get a striking design that looks and feels very premium. There are few asymmetric things going on with the smartphone like the camera module many people told me looks off (I personally like it), or maybe the lack of an aluminium frame, but these are just nitpicks. Overall, I quite like how this smartphone looks and feels.

Oppo Reno11 Pro Review: Display

The Oppo Reno11 Pro also has a very good display. Here also, the smartphone exceeded my expectations with super accurate colours, slick responsiveness, and sufficient luminance. I tested this display quite rigorously and found it to be quite capable. From colour accuracy, to luminance, the Oppo Reno11 Pro’s display is very good all around. Here, we get a 6.7-inch curved AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and an FHD+ resolution.

Given the 120Hz refresh rate, this display is super responsive and smooth. Scrolling through menus and apps is an absolute treat with the 120Hz refresh rate, which can also be adjusted to a “Dynamic” setting where the refresh rate is adjusted according to the content on screen. The display is also sufficiently crisp and sharp and comes with HDR10+ certification, so all your videos and web series on Netflix and YouTube will play in proper HDR, if supported by the content.

Coming to how accurate the colours are, here also the Oppo Reno11 Pro just hits it out of the park. In my colour checker analysis, the smartphone showcased marginal error with an average DeltaE of just 0.8! This is super accurate, meaning that the colours that you see on the Oppo Reno11 Pro’s display are super close to what you actually see in real life. For perspective, a DeltaE of less than 3 is considered accurate for smartphone displays.

In the greyscale test also, the Oppo Reno11 Pro showcased good results. The smartphone tracked Gamma 2.2 and showcased a good RGB balance. The reds are a bit higher than the greens and blues on this display, but that difference is marginal and would result in a more saturated or contrasty image, which is preferred by most people.

So in terms of the display performance, the Oppo Reno11 Pro is great. It has a very smooth, accurate, bright, and good looking display that checks all the boxes and hits it out of the park in deeper testing.

Oppo Reno 11 Pro Review: Performance and battery

Coming to performance, this is where we see a pretty decent jump as compared to the Oppo Reno10 Pro from last year. The Oppo Reno11 Pro comes with a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 chipset paired with up to 12GB of RAM. Now, these are similar specifications to last year’s iQOO Neo 7, which was quite a performer if I look at my tests from last year. The Oppo Reno 11 Pro is also pretty good in that area.

On AnTuTu, the Oppo Reno 11 Pro put out a score of 9,35,051 points, which is a massive jump up from last year’s Oppo Reno 11 and despite the smartphone using last year’s high-end chip from MediaTek, is right up there with today’s mid-range competitors. Further, on Geekbench as well, the smartphone showcased good performance. I was able to get a single-core score of 1065 points and a multi-core score of 3389 points on the Geekbench 6 benchmark. Good.

In GPU-based benchmarks also, the performance is average and right up there with the competition. The smartphone obviously is not the most powerful in all, but comfortably beats competition like the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ or the Vivo V29 Pro.

While we are on performance, it is also important to mention the software. The Oppo Reno11 Pro runs on Oppo’s latest ColorOS 14, which comes with many new features that users can make use of. For example, the Smart Touch feature that allows you to drag and drop items that you want to keep as notes. There is also the Trinity Engine, which optimises the smartphone’s peripherals according to the usage.

While the ColorOS 14 is not free of bloatware, and while there are still issues like the ads here and there, the plethora of permissions, and the likes, I like that Oppo has given features that will help users be more productive and help with multitasking.

Coming to the battery, this is also good on the Oppo Reno11 Pro. The smartphone comes with a 5,000mAh battery with support for 80W fast charging. Now, the battery backup is very good. In our video loop test, where I ran a 4K video on the smartphone till it died, the Oppo Reno11 Pro lasted more than 12 hours, which is brilliant for any smartphone in any segment. The smartphone also lost very less battery while playing games or navigating via GPS, but its wasn’t the best we have seen in this segment.

The 80W fast charging is also super fast. With the in-box charger, the Oppo Reno11 Pro was able to go from 0 to 100 percent in just 31 minutes. That is superb and is basically an indicator of the fact that if you are low on battery, plugging in your smartphone for a few minutes will give you enough juice to last for the day.

Oppo Reno11 Pro Review: Camera

Coming to the camera, this is where Oppo has talked heaps and bounds about what the smartphone can do. We get a 50-megapixel primary shooter, a 32-megapixel telephoto lens, and another 8-megapixel ultrawide angle lens. Now, the camera performance using this hardware isn’t the best, to say the least.

In ideal lighting conditions, however, you will be able to take very good shots from the primary shooter and the 3x optical zoom. Even the 5X in-sensor zoom works very well in bright and ideal conditions. Furthermore, the wide angle shooter is pretty good on its own, but when compared to the primary shooter, even in ideal lighting, the results are not consistent and the colour shift between the primary shooter and the wide angle shooter is very evident.

When it comes to low light, however, the camera isn’t that great. In the images from the primary shooter, I experienced a lot of light flare when clicking scenarios that have bits of light. The wide-angle images are also not that great and the results are mostly hazy and not very sharp, unless of course, you turn down the exposure on the Oppo Reno11 Pro. Then in 5X images, I also experienced a lot of watercolour effect, which just makes the images look artificial.

The portraits on the Oppo Reno11 Pro, however, are very good. In all kinds of lighting conditions, the portraits superb. The edge detection is good, background blur is nice, and the Oppo Reno11 Pro captures skin tones also quite nicely. The only issue here is that there is a bit of smoothening happening, but that is negligible.

So overall, this is a good camera, but the way Oppo has marketed this as one of the best cameras in this segment is far from how it actually performs. I, honestly, liked last year’s Oppo Reno10 Pro’s camera performance more than this. Yes, the software experience is better, but hardware and output-wise, there isn’t much of an upgrade.

Oppo Reno11 Pro Review: Verdict

So the Oppo Reno11 Pro is your average mid-range smartphone with an above average performance and display. The cameras, sadly, aren’t the best part about this smartphone, but Oppo’s “portrait expert” tagline is still not that far off as the Reno11 Pro clicks very good portraits.

Oppo-Reno11 and Oppo F25 Pro 5G

The best part about the smartphone, according to me, was the design and display. Even in terms of performance the smartphone does well, and there are software improvements, but the experience hasn’t changed drastically with ColorOS 14. For a pricetag of Rs 39,999 onwards, the Oppo Reno11 Pro feels a bit overpriced.
