Realme GT 7 Review: Not just a performance phone!
- Powerful Performance
- Colour-accurate Display
- Great Battery Life
- Plastic Build
- Average Low-Light Camera Performance
- Display could have been brighter
The Realme GT 7 offers excellent performance, a vibrant display, and long battery life, making it a strong all-rounder for Rs 40,000. While the build could feel more premium and brightness could be higher, it still delivers great value, especially for gamers and power users looking for a capable daily driver.
Realme GT 7 Review: The high-end Pro variant of the Realme GT 7 series made headlines as the first smartphone in India to launch with the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. In our review, we said it “offers incredible value for power users and gamers who prioritise performance above all else.” Now, Realme is back with two more additions to the lineup, the Realme GT 7 and the GT 7T. And this time, the standard GT 7 becomes the first phone in India to hit the shelves with the brand-new MediaTek Dimensity 9400e processor.
I’ve been using the Realme GT 7 for a few weeks now, and I have to say Realme has done some pretty impressive work here. Many performance-centric phones tend to cut corners on cameras or display quality. But the Realme GT 7 strikes a good balance. It delivers solid, stable performance, reliable cameras, and long-lasting battery life, all for a starting price of ₹39,999.
But as someone once said, “Even the best have their weaknesses.” And the GT 7? It’s no exception. So, shall we begin?
Subtle yet striking design
You know what I liked the most about Realme GT 7’s design? That subtle hint of red. I’ve been using the Ice Sense Blue variant, which, at first glance, might seem a bit basic. But if you’re someone who notices the little things (like me), you’ll appreciate the red steel outline around the camera module and the red-accented power button. It’s a small touch, but it gives the phone some real character.
Now, beyond the aesthetics, the GT 7 is also decently protected. It features Gorilla Glass 7i on the front and comes with an IP69 rating, which means it’s guarded well against drops, dust, and water. In-hand feel is pretty comfortable too, with the phone weighing 206 grams and measuring 8.3mm in thickness.
But if I’m being honest, this plastic body could feel a bit more premium. The frame may look metallic, but it’s plastic with a metal coating. Smartphones around this price, such as the OnePlus 13R, Vivo V50, etc, give you a much better in-hand feel and more refined materials.
Realme has also introduced Graphene technology on the GT 7’s back panel. The brand claims it helps keep the surface cool in summer and warm in winter, plus, it improves thermal conductivity. So, does it work? Well, when idle, the phone does stay cool to the touch. During intensive use, though, it did heat up to around 43.3°C, which is acceptable and well within control.
Display is one of its best features
The display on the Realme GT 7 is, honestly, one of the most underrated features of this phone and also one of its best. It sports a 6.78-inch 1.5K AMOLED panel with support for a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision. Translation? At ₹39,999, you’re getting a seriously top-notch screen.
And this isn’t just my opinion, the numbers back it up. In our Calman test using the C6 Colorimeter, the Realme GT 7 scored a Delta E of just 0.7, which means the colour accuracy is nearly perfect. Even in daily use, the display looks absolutely stunning – rich colours, sharp details, and punchy visuals all around.
If you’re someone who binges shows or plays games on high-graphics settings, you’re going to love this screen. It’s vibrant, fast (thanks to that 120Hz refresh rate), and sharp enough to impress even picky eyes.
What could’ve made it even better? A brighter panel and a 144Hz refresh rate would make more sense for a Rs 40,000 performance-centric phone. In our lab, the GT 7 hit a peak brightness of 1630 nits in Auto Mode, which isn’t bad at all, but competitors like the OnePlus 13R, Vivo V50, and iQOO Neo 10 outshone it with higher scores.
Realme GT 7 is powerful, but can it handle that power?
Now to the core of this smartphone, the very reason this series exists: PERFORMANCE
As mentioned earlier, the Realme GT 7 is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400e, paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. And how powerful is it? In one line, probably the most powerful phone in its segment.
In our benchmark tests, the GT 7 came out on top against its rivals. The lead wasn’t massive, but it was enough to make a point.
To see how stable this power really is, I ran two stress tests: one for 15 minutes under moderate load, and another for 30 minutes under heavy load. In both scenarios, it held strong with stability scores over 60%, which is solid but not the ‘best’ or maybe ‘one of the best’. With a future software update, Realme might even push this number higher. Fingers crossed.
But here’s the important part: Does any of this impact real-world usage? I would say not at all. While testing BGMI, the Realme GT 7 ran like a champ. In a 30-minute gaming session, we recorded an average of 102 FPS, and not once did I feel the phone was holding back. Smooth, fast, and responsive.
So, if you’re a gamer looking for solid performance around ₹40,000, the Realme GT 7 certainly makes a strong case. It stands out as one of the best options for gaming in this price range.
Realme GT 7 Review: UI
While Realme UI 6.0 looks somewhat similar to older generation skins, it feels noticeably cleaner this time around. The Realme GT 7 does come with some bloatware, but surprisingly, it doesn’t feel overwhelming as you scroll through the phone.
Realme has also introduced a few new AI features, and the spotlight is on ‘AI Planner.’ As its name suggests, this feature intelligently schedules your plans and sends timely alerts. It integrates with popular apps like Gmail, WhatsApp, Instagram, and more, which helps you stay organized without extra effort.
Camera gets the job done for most users
For photography, the Realme GT 7 uses a triple camera setup, consisting of a 50-megapixel main camera, a 50-megapixel telephoto sensor, and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens. On the front, it has a 16-megapixel selfie shooter. And about the camera, it’s nice!
From the main camera, the GT 7 clicks vibrant shots that are visually appealing. The details are also on point, and you get crisp shots. The colours are on the saturated side, but not the ones that bother you so much. Even the dynamic range and HDR management are good on the device.
With low light conditions, the phone tries to enhance these pictures with vibrant shots but struggles a little in maintaining the details. Even the light management could have been better.
Portraits turn out well, the bokeh is nice, and so is the edge detection. However, we could have used some brightness, as the faces look a little washed off. Plus, there’s a little smoothening too.
7000mAh battery that lasts long and charges fast
When it comes to performance, the Realme GT 7 hasn’t been stingy. It packs a massive 7000mAh battery that supports 120-watt fast charging. In the PC Mark Battery Life test, this phone lasted for 20 hours and 9 minutes, with around 20% juice still remaining.
Here’s how it performed in real-world usage:
- Google Maps – 6% battery drop in an hour.
- BGMI – 4% drop in 15 minutes.
- Netflix – 5% drop in 30 minutes.
Overall, the battery life of the Realme GT 7 is promising, and charging is fast too. I managed to charge the phone from 0 to 100% in just 42 minutes.
Why should you pick the Realme GT 7?
So, here’s the Rs 40,000 question – why should you pick the Realme GT 7? If you want solid performance that doesn’t quit, a huge battery that lasts all day, and a gorgeous display that makes gaming and streaming a joy, this phone has you covered.
It might not feel super premium in the hand, and the brightness could be a bit higher, but for the price, it’s a really well-balanced package. If you’re into gaming or just want a reliable all-rounder, the GT 7 is definitely worth a close look.
