The new patent describes a couple of ways a wearable could store a pair of wireless earphones. They could be attached to the watch’s strap or to its face, and pop out with a press.
Huawei has patented a smartwatch that could also allow users to store a pair of wireless earbuds. Spotted by LetsGoDigital, the new patent describes methods for storing Bluetooth enabled earphones within a smartwatch. They could be attached magnetically to the watch’s band or in a small case. The earbuds could also be stored in a spring latch mechanism that is fixed on either side of the watch face. As per the report, the cans could also be water-resistant and come with active noise cancellation.
The patent was granted to Huawei by the World Intellectual Property Organization last week. There is no assurity that the stated technology will actually be used in the company’s upcoming products or not. However, it’s also a possibility that the tech could be used in the upcoming Huawei Watch 3. The methods described in the patent do make sense as one would like to store their wireless earbuds where it’s easy to find them. Also, if the wearable comes with a charging case, it would also remove the need to carry a charging case for the wireless earbuds.
Huawei was expected to announce its Watch 3 at this year’s bygone Mobile World Congress (MWC). However, that did not happen and we are expecting it to be unveiled at next year’s MWC. The company’s last wearable, the Huawei Watch 2, was launched in September last year. Even though the device was a second generation Android Wear smartwatch, it was said to be riddled with bugs and also received flak for poor battery life. It’s powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor.
The Huawei Watch 3 could be powered by a yet to be announced Qualcomm chip, which will be the successor to the Wear 2100. Qualcomm recently did announce its Wear 2500 platform that supports 4G LTE, up to 5MP camera sensor and offers precise location tracking. However, it is designed to be used in kid’s smartwatches.
