Google teases screenless Fitbit band to take on Whoop and Oura: Here is what we know
Google is developing a screenless Fitbit band with a subscription-led model.
The device will integrate with an AI-powered Fitbit health coach inside the app.
It is expected to launch later this year.
Google is reportedly developing a new screenless fitness band under its Fitbit brand. This appears to be inspired by the Whoop band. According to Bloomberg, the device is expected to launch later this year. Incidentally, in a recent collaboration Instagram Reel between Google and its Performance Advisor and Basketball celebrity Stephen Curry, we can see the latter wearing the device. Here, check out the Reel and learn what we know about the Fitbit band.

In a 15-second clip, Stephen Curry can be seen posing with the fitness band on his wrist. It doesn’t have a display. So, it will be different from the traditional wearables. Like in the case of a smart ring, say the Oura or Gabit Ring, or a band like the one from Whoop, this Fitbit band could rely on passive health tracking and associated insights. You would be able to access these reports and control certain settings of the band through the Fitbit app.
Bloomberg has learned from its sources that the Fitbit band will offer basic features for free, and advanced analytics and coaching features could be placed behind a paywall. Whoop and Oura Health Oy also have subscriptions. Whoop even sells the device on a free one-month trial basis, and the user is charged for the insights on a recurring membership basis.

Early visuals shared by Stephen Curry suggest a fabric-based band with a minimal aesthetic. Think of a cloth-based smartwatch strap. Such bands are typically comfortable for long-term wear.
And for the unversed, the redesigned Fitbit app now includes an AI-powered personal health coach. This system, currently in preview, offers guidance across areas such as recovery, sleep, mental health, hydration, and nutrition.
The addition of this product would expand Google’s wearables portfolio, which already includes the Google Pixel Watch and multiple Fitbit trackers. And this time, the move seems to be targeted at services-driven health tracking, rather than just hardware upgrades.
Such a device means the user doesn’t have to feel anxious about constantly checking reports or bothered by aggressive real-time stats. So, Google could get recurring revenue from such users who want something more passive and less intrusive than smartwatches.
We will be keeping tabs on its development.
