When talking about internet access, most of us probably think of high-speed home broadband connection or LTE connectivity on our phones. However, hotspot devices are available in the market enabling internet access on the go and with Jio entering the fray, competitors like Airtel and Vodafone were forced to reduce prices of their hotspot devices and their recharge plans. After slashing the price of its 4G Hotspot device, Airtel has now revamped the monthly rental plans for it, which now start at Rs 399 and also offer the device for free on some of the higher priced plans.

The new plans displayed on Airtel’s website, first noted by TelecomTalk, are priced at Rs 399 and Rs 599. These are unlimited plans but one will get to avail a total of 50GB and 100GB of high-speed data per month respectively, after which the internet speeds will be throttled to 80 kbps. To get the Airtel 4G Hotspot device free of cost, one would need to opt for any one of the six-month advance rental plans. These plans are priced at Rs 2,400 and Rs 3,600 respectively and offer 50GB and 100GB of monthly data. These are also unlimited plans and one will get to use the internet at 80kbps after burning through the free data.

As mentioned earlier, Airtel slashed the prices of its 4G Dongle to Rs 999, down from Rs 1,950 back in December 2017. Airtel’s 4G Hotspot device, as the name suggests, creates a Wi-Fi hotspot to which 10 devices can connect simultaneously. The company says it can last up to 6 hours on a single charge and also supports 3G and 2G connectivity options. Airtel’s portable hotspot takes on Jio’s JMR 1140 4G hotspot device, which is also available for Rs 999. It also supports up to 10 devices at once and gives access to Jio’s 4G LTE network, along with making VoLTE calls.
