Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 listing sparks rumours of June 16 launch

HIGHLIGHTS

The Xiaomi Redmi 2 has been rumoured for a while now. The device will reportedly support global LTE.

The rumoured Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 smartphone has been leaked again. In a listing on China’s Oppomart, an e-commerce website selling Chinese smartphones, the Redmi Note 2 will run on the Snapdragon 615 SoC and sports a 5.7 inch 1080p display and 13MP rear camera. Interestingly, the image that Oppomart has used for the listing has till now been thought to be of another rumoured Xiaomi device, the upcoming flagship Xiaomi Mi5.

Xiaomi has already announced an upcoming event in Beijing on June 16, during which the company is expected to launch its next flagship smartphone. Now, there are one of two possibilities — either the Xiaomi Mi5 will be launched alongside the Redmi Note 2, or the Redmi Note 2 alone will be launched. The other option obviously is that Oppomart’s listing is inaccurate and the image is actually that of the Xiaomi Mi5.

According to Oppomart’s listing, the Redmi Note 2 will be priced at $249 (Rs. 15,300 approx.) and will have curved glass on both the front and back of the device. It will also support global 4G LTE networks, and will run MiUI 6 over Android 4.4. This last part is again a little hard to believe, since Xiaomi already has Lollipop builds for its MiUI 6 interface.
