Leaks suggest that the SoC might sport an octa-core configuration clocked at 2.2GHz

Xiaomi may be planning to launch a cheaper variant of the Mi 5. The device is expected to be called the Mi 5c and leaked specifications suggest that it might sport the company's own Pinecone SoC. As per the leak by MyDrivers, the SoC might sport an octa-core configuration (possibly Cortex A53 cores) clocked at 2.2GHz.  If this is true, then Xiaomi will join the likes of Apple, Samsung and Huawei in manufacturing their own chipsets.

As for the phone itself, it is expected to come with a 5.5-inch display along with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. It is also tipped to come with a 12MP primary camera and an 8MP secondary camera. The device may also feature MIUI 8.0, which is based on Android Marshmallow. The Xiaomi Mi 5c is expected to be announced on November 30.

Last year, Xiaomi launched a cheaper version of its then flagship, the Mi 4. Called the Mi 4c, the device sported a 5-inch FHD display and was powered by a Snapdragon 808 SoC. The device was available in two variants, one with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, while the other with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage.
