Following the suit of Vodafone, Airtel and Idea, Videocon has also slashed its data rates. The operator now charges GPRS data at 1p for 10KB.

Videocon Mobile Services has announced the reduction of its GPRS rates by a whopping 90 percent for Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab circles. The operator is now charging data at the rate of 1p for 10KB, down from 10p per 10KB earlier. Moreover, the operator will charge 1p per 10KB after users exhaust their free 2G data pack quota.

The operator claims its 2.75G EDGE network will offer better services as compared to 2G network and closer to 3G. The new data tariff will be applicable from the first week of this month.

“Videocon Mobile Services is known to offer the best value-for-money products at a price which is nearly 25% lower than the market rate. This 90% tariff reduction will help increase data penetration across segments, which will translate into stronger benefits for the brand and will help us engage more subscribers in coming times,” says Arvind Bali, director and CEO, Videocon Mobile Services.

Videocon’s cut in data rates come days after telecom majors such as Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone announced massive cuts in their 2G data tariffs.

Vodafone was the first operator to slash 2G tariffs. Announcing a whopping 80 percent cut, the operator is now charging 2p/10KB, down from the previous 10p/10KB.

Airtel changed the Volume Based Charges (VBC) on its recharge vouchers for 2G data usage of three denominations to 1p per 10KB from 10p per 10KB. Idea also reduced data tariff to 2p per 10KB for its prepaid and postpaid customers.
