Tecno showcased rollable phone at MWC 2024: Can this outrun foldable displays?
HIGHLIGHTS

Tecno has come up with the Phantom Ultimate rollable phone that also has a rollable display.

The display of this smartphone goes sideways.

It just looks like any other usual smartphone with a similar 6.55-inch OLED display.

At the Mobile World Congress 2024, AI has taken the centre stage. At every booth, every other brand is promoting AI through their tech and gadgets, some in the most unique ways. We came across one more such device and let me tell you all about it. You might have come across Motorolla’s Rizr, a concept phone that had a rollable display that expanded vertically. This year, Tecno has come up with the Phantom Ultimate rollable phone that also has a rollable display, but this time it goes sideways. I have all the details right here for you, read along.

On the looks of it, it just looks like any other usual smartphone with a similar 6.55-inch OLED display. But the magic happens just with the press of a button. If you feel that the display size is not enough and would need a tablet-sized display, just press the dedicated button and the screen will expand horizontally, giving you a 7.11-inch display. This offers you a wider viewing range and you can comfortably multi-task or even watch movies, etc.

When the extended display is not in use, you can use it as a secondary display to view time and notifications. It rolls around on extension as a smaller secondary display.

Now, you know that this is a concept phone and there’s only so much that we know about it. Tecno hasn’t shared any further information about this device either. We will have to wait and see if in the future this hits the market for commercial use or not. But personally, I feel that after foldable smartphones, rollable devices could be the future of smartphones. What are your thoughts about it?
