Samsung will stop selling Galaxy Z TriFold just after months of launch, here’s why

Samsung’s experiment with a triple-folding smartphone may be coming to an early end. The company’s first tri-fold device, the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold, which grabbed attention when it launched late last year, is reportedly being phased out just a few months after reaching the market. For many Samsung fans, especially in countries like India, this means the device may never officially arrive.
SurveyAccording to Bloomberg, Samsung Electronics is planning to gradually stop selling the device, suggesting that the phone was never meant to be a mass-market product but rather a demonstration of Samsung’s advanced foldable technology.
The company has started the process by halting sales in its home country, a company spokesperson said. After that, Samsung will discontinue sales in the US once the remaining inventory runs out.

Signs of this decision had already started appearing online. Earlier this month, Samsung’s website stopped mentioning any future restocks of the device. Instead of teasing upcoming availability, the page now lists the phone as ‘sold out.’
Despite the official listing showing no stock, some buyers have still managed to find units in physical Samsung stores. Reports on social media and forums like Reddit claim that a few devices were recently spotted at Samsung Experience Stores in Frisco, Texas and Queens.
Another factor that hinted at its limited lifespan was its availability. Unlike most flagship phones, the TriFold was sold only through Samsung’s own channels. Major retailers never offered it, making it harder for the device to reach a wider audience.
Samsung first unveiled the Galaxy Z TriFold in December last year as a technological showcase. The device features two hinges and can unfold into a large 10-inch tablet-like screen. However, its extremely high price made it accessible only to a small group of buyers.

Samsung executives have also acknowledged the challenges behind the device. In a recent interview, Won-Joon Choi, the chief operating officer of Samsung’s mobile business, said the company has not yet decided whether the TriFold will get a successor because of the complexity involved in manufacturing it. So, this could also be the reason Samsung is planning to stop selling Galaxy Z TriFold.
