The two are said to be facing issues with the corners of the display unable to register touch due to the current lamination process.

Samsung and LG are reportedly working on a display, which is curved on all four sides. According to a report by ETNews, both companies are working on a way to make phones truly bezeless. Currently, devices like the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ minimize bezels by curving two sides of the display. However, sources told the publication that the companies are facing technical difficulties with the lamination process, because of which these displays will most likely make their debut next year.

The report notes that curving all four sides of a display and using the current lamination process makes the corners unable to register touch. Both, Samsung and LG are said to be working on a fix for the problem. If a company does launch a smartphone with a display curved on four sides, ETNews speculates that it might offer a screen-to-body ratio of 98 percent.

It is noted that this has lead to Apple choosing a flat OLED panel instead of a curved one for its anniversary edition iPhone, tipped to be called the iPhone 8. Recent reports have suggested that Apple may have ordered 70 million OLED display panels from Samsung. The iPhone 8 is tipped to be launched alongside the iPhone 7s and the iPhone 7s Plus, although the launch date for the devices may have been delayed.
