Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus dimensions leak, hinting at compact design
HIGHLIGHTS

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus are expected to house a larger display with a more compact form factor.

Samsung is expected to announce its 2017 flagship smartphones, Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus, on April 18. The smartphones are widely rumoured to feature a big screen packed in a compact body. Now, a new leak confirms exact dimensions of the upcoming flagship devices.

GSMArena has obtained precise measurements of the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus from a case maker. According to the renders, the Galaxy S8 Plus will measure 152.38 x 78.51 x 7.94 mm in dimensions. If these turn out to be true, the Galaxy S8 Plus will be taller and wider than the current generation Galaxy S7 edge.

According to these dimensions, the Galaxy S8 Plus seems to be wider but not as tall as the Galaxy Note 7. GSMArena notes, the dimensions translate to a screen size of 6.3 inches. Samsung seems to be really taking design cues from Xiaomi's Mi Mix here with a large screen packed into a smaller body.

Samsung Galaxy S8, on the other hand, is reportedly coming with a dimension of 140.14 x 72.20 x 7.30mm. These dimensions are shorter but wider than existing Galaxy S7 smartphone. The dimensions also translate to a screen size of 5.7 inches. These display sizes are in line with previous rumours that stated that Galaxy S8 will come in 5.7-inch and 6.2-inch screen sizes.

The dimensions make it clear that Samsung might be dropping the home button and there are no signs of a power button or volume rocker, either. A recent video teaser by Samsung Display showcased a yet-to-be-announced smartphone with really thin bezels. These dimensions and renders are akin to that device.

Surprisingly, this leak hints at Samsung continuing with microUSB ports instead of USB-C for charging and data transfer. Samsung has almost nailed smartphone cameras with its flagship Galaxy series. With Galaxy S8 Plus, the company is rumoured to adopt a dual-rear camera setup. A recent report also "confirmed" that Galaxy S8 series will come with IP68 water and dust resistance.
