OnePlus 3/3T could be updated with OnePlus 5T’s face unlock feature
HIGHLIGHTS

OnePlus recently announced the face unlock feature for the OnePlus 5 smartphone and asked OnePlus 3/3T users if they want the feature on their devices.

The Face Unlock feature on the OnePlus 5T might soon make its way to the OnePlus 3 and 3T smartphones. OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei recently confirmed in a forum post that the OnePlus 5 will soon receive the facial recognition feature in an upcoming Open Beta build and hinted at the possibility that the feature could soon come to the OnePlus 3 and 3T smartphones.

Pei, in his post, asked OnePlus 3 and 3T users, “In the spirit of building together, we’d also like to ask our OnePlus 3 and 3T users: Do you want Face Unlock too?” Later, Pei also posted a tweet asking OnePlus 3 and 3T users the same question, hinting at the possibility that the feature might make its way to the older OnePlus smartphones if the company receives enough responses.

As mentioned above, the company will bring the Face Unlock feature for the OnePlus 5 through an upcoming Open Beta build. As it will be a beta update, it could be unstable and have bugs. The company said, “Consider it an early test run. We'll work out any remaining kinks and take time to work through your feedback. Then we will release Face Unlock to OnePlus 5 users worldwide in an Official Release build.”

Oneplus started rolling out the Android Oreo update for the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 3T in November. The company has already announced that Android Oreo will be the last major update for both the smartphones. It brings some new improvements to the OnePlus launcher like new notification dots and a new app folder design along with core Oreo features such as support for Picture-in-Picture (PiP), new quick settings designs, Parallel Apps, and more. Also, Users will also be able to upload photos directly to “Shot on OnePlus”.
