OnePlus 5, the much-hyped flagship smartphone is now official. The handset is globally available from the company's online store and select pop-up venues. In India, the handset is available via an open sale today on Amazon India and company's own e-Store.
With OnePlus 5, the company has already confirmed that the handset will get the Android O update once it becomes officially available from Google. However, OnePlus' older flagship - OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T - won't turn obsolete. The Chinese smartphone maker has now confirmed that both the smartphones will receive Android O updates by the end of this year. OnePlus held a Reddit AMA yesterday where it confirmed that Android O updates for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T will arrive "within this year."
Android O is the next big mobile operating system release from Google. The mobile OS was announced in the form of a beta at Google I/O 2017 last month, and is currently available in the form of a preview for select Nexus and Pixel smartphones. The operating system is expected to be named Oatmeal Cookie, but there is no clarity as to when it will become official.
With the launch of Android Nougat, OnePlus confirmed OxygenOS based on Nougat for OnePlus 3, but didn't share details about the update for OnePlus 2. OnePlus recently confirmed that OnePlus 2 won't be updated to Android Nougat, disappointing a lot of users. By updating the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, the company seems to be making amends to its update policy.
