According to HMD Global, the company has more than 86,000 testers who will test and refine the software update ahead of the official release.

Two weeks after rolling out the Android Pie 9.0 update for the Nokia 7 Plus smartphone, HMD Global, which sells Nokia-branded smartphones, has announced that it has released the beta version of the latest Android OS for the Nokia 6.1 Plus (Review) smartphone. The Finnish company says that the beta update is available via Nokia Beta Labs and over 86,000 people, who have signed up to the testing the update, will first use the software and help in refining the update ahead of official the release.

“To further solidify our leadership and commitment to Android One and fast platform updates for our fans, we are happy to announce that the Nokia 6.1 Plus is the first smartphone globally to offer Android Pie on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 Mobile Platform via our Nokia phones beta labs. This is our first beta version of Android 9 the Nokia 6.1 Plus for early adopters. Over the coming weeks we will be working together with our fast-growing community of beta testers to ensure uncompromised quality ahead of general release,” Chief Product Marketing Officer, Juho Sarvikas, said in a statement.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus features a 5.8-inch Full HD+ notched display with a 19:9 aspect ratio and is protected by a Gorilla Glass 3. It is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor and is supported by 4GB RAM. The 64GB local storage can be expanded up to 400GB via MicroSD card. The dual-SIM device is backed by a 3060mAh battery that supports Quick Charge 3.0 technology. When it comes to camera, the Nokia 6.1 Plus is equipped with a 16MP + 5MP dual-rear camera setup with Zeiss lenses and on the front, it sports a 16 MP sensor.

It currently runs on Android Oreo 8.1 under Google’s Android One Programme. This means that the smartphone will get timely security and OS updates. Being under the programme, the smartphone is also entitled to get features like App Actions – an exclusive feature to Android One devices and Google Pixel line-up of phones.
