Huawei has said that it made no money from its Windows Phones, and neither did any other company.
We all know that Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform is placed third in smartphone ecosystem, but we never thought it was in such doldrums. According to Huawei’s head of international media affairs, Joe Kelly, “Nobody made any money in Windows Phone.” Kelly revealed the info while talking to Seattle Times.
Kelly said that Huawei didn’t make any money from its two smartphones running on Windows Phone, and neither did anyone else who tried the OS. The company had also been working on a dual-boot Windows Phone/Android device, but scrapped the idea later, probably for the same reason.
Microsoft has been trying to push its Windows Phone OS for a long time now. The company recently made its OS free and approached OEMs to build Windows versions of their flagship smartphones. One of the few that have obliged is HTC, which brought the HTC One (M8) Windows version to some international markets. Domestic manufacturers Micromax, Spice and some others have also come up with Windows Phone-based smartphones recently.
Huawei has recently been pushing its business in the smartphone space, with phones like the Huawei Honor 6. The company recieved a lot of accolades for the Honor 6 smartphone, which runs on Huawei's own Kirin processor.
