The Dimensity 820 runs on MediaTek’s HyperEngine 2.0 which the company claims to offer ‘best-in-class gaming experience’ with up to 33 per cent better gaming performance as compared to ‘direct alternative’. The chipset also features the MediaTek APU 3.0 which is the company’s proprietary neural processing unit for AI tasks. The AI chip, according to the company, offers better benchmark performance, precise AI scene recognition in cameras and improve power efficiency.

As for imaging, the Dimensity 820 features MediaTek’s Imagiq 5.0 technology that supports up to four camera sensors up to 80 megapixels. The company claims the ISP is capable of capturing multiple frames at different exposure automatically, and fuse them into a video stream for HDR videos.

The chipset can support up to 16GB LPDDR4X RAM with H.264, H.256/HEVC encoding. The chip also supports SDR to HDR conversion and HDR10+ video playback.

Where connectivity is concerned, the MediaTek Dimensity 820 gets a lot of features from the Dimensity 1000+ SoC announced recently. That includes an integrated 5G modem and 2CC Carrier Aggregation to enable seamless handover between two 5G connection areas. There’s also support for Bluetooth 5.1, UFS storage and 4K video recording.

Based on recent leaks and rumours, the Dimensity 820 SoC will debut on the Xiaomi Redmi 10X in China.
