Leaked images show LG G5 with a new design
HIGHLIGHTS

As per the leak, the upcoming flagship phone will see the volume buttons moved to the side of the phone instead of the rear, and it will be thinner, taller and wider than the LG G4

The upcoming LG G5 may sport a very different design as compared to its predecessors. According to a report by Android Authority, the upcoming flagship phone will see the volume buttons moved to the side of the device and not on the rear like previous G-series phones. However, the power button may still be located on the back of the device, just below the rear camera. It is also possible that the power button will have a fingerprint sensor.

The report by Android Authority goes on to state that the LG G5 will be thinner than the G4, but will be taller and wider. It claims that the LG G5 is expected to be 149.4mm tall and 73.9mm wide while being 8.2mm thick. By comparison, the LG G4 is 148.9mm tall, 76.1mm wide, and 6.3-9.8mm thick. LG is expected to launch the LG G5 during the Mobile World Congress event scheduled to be held in Barcelona in February. Samsung is also expected to unveil the Galaxy S7 smartphone during the same event.

Last month, a leaked image purported to be of the LG G5 showed a dual camera setup at the back of the phone along with rear facing physical buttons and a metallic body. A few days later, a report by VentureBeat stated that the upcoming flagship device could come with a secondary display similar to the one found on the LG V10. It is believed that the secondary display will be one of LG’s headline features across its lineup in 2016. The report also mentions that the phone will have a ‘Magic Slot’ that will allow users to attach peripherals that would expand the hardware capabilities of the device. In addition, the dual camera configuration of the phone will allow the primary 16MP camera to take 135 degree wide-angle pictures, while there may be an 8MP camera in the front. The device has been tipped to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC with 3GB of RAM along with a 5.3-inch QHD Display. The phone is expected to come with 32GB of onboard storage along with a 2800mAh battery. It is not known if LG will equip the device with a microSD card slot.
