Apple's Special Event scheduled for October 13

The latest leak surrounding Apple’s October 13 event has revealed almost everything there is to know about the upcoming iPhone 12 series including prices, colour options and storage variants. Additionally, we also got to know about other products that are expected to grace the stage during the special event next week.

According to a post on Weibo by Kang. who is a noted leakster, Apple is preparing to launch the iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max on October 13. The post goes on to mention that the company is also bringing a HomePod Mini smart speaker along with accessories including wireless chargers with MagSafe support. The Twitter handle Ice Universe has also lent some credence to this leak and calls it accurate.

There have been numerous reports in the past about the expected iPhone 12 lineup but the name iPhone 12 mini has cropped up only recently. Here’s everything we get to know from the latest leak about the iPhone 12, HomePod Mini and more.

What to expect from Apple’s October 13 event?

Kang’s leak lays bare the alleged product lineup that’s set to launch on October 13 including the four new iPhones in the iPhone 12 series, HomePod Mini and accessories. The iPhone 12 Mini features a 5.4-inch Super Retina XDR display while the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro have a 6.1-inch display. The iPhone 12 Pro Max features a 6.7-inch display of the same make as well.

The leak indicates that all the iPhone 12 models support 5G and the screen is layered with a ceramic substrate glass that increases durability. The iPhone 12 Mini and the regular iPhone 12 is expected to come with a dual-camera setup that consists of a secondary ultra-wide-angle camera with features like Deep Fusion, night mode, Smart HDR 3 and more.

The iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max is rumoured to come with triple cameras and a LiDAR sensor. However, the iPhone 12 Pro Max has a larger sensor than the 12 Pro. There is an ultra-wide-angle camera and a telephoto camera with 52mm focal length that provides 4x optical zoom on the iPhone 12 Pro while the 12 Pro Max has a 65mm focal length camera that offers 5x zoom.

The new iPhones are powered by the Apple A14 SoC, becoming the first phones to be powered by a commercial 5nm chip. Interestingly, the A14 processor debuted on the new iPad Air last month. The new iPhones are also rumoured to come with supports for 5G networks.

The iPhone 12 Mini is expected to be priced starting at $699 while the iPhone 12 could start from $799. Both phones come in black, white, red, blue and green colour options to choose from. The phones are expected to be available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB storage options to choose from.

The iPhone 12 Pro could start from $999 for the base storage variant while the iPhone 12 Pro Max could be priced starting at $1,099. The iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max could be offered in 128GB, 256GB and 512GB storage options and in gold, silver, graphite and blue colours.

Moreover, the leak states that Apple will not provide earphones and charging adapters inside the box, something it has already clarified during the Apple Watch Series 6 launch last month.

Coming to the availability, Kang notes that the iPhone 12 Mini is expected to go on pre-orders between November 6-7 and will go on sale between November 13-14.  The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro pre-orders are scheduled to start from October 16-17 and will go on sale from October 23 or October 24. The iPhone 12 Pro Max has a deferred availability as it is expected to go on pre-orders starting November 13-14 and goes on sale either on November 20 or November 21.

As for the HomePod Mini, the leak suggests that the smart speaker is being priced at $99 with sales starting from November 16.

Apple has confirmed that it is hosting a special event on October 13 at 10:30 PM IST (10:00 AM PDT) that will be live-streamed online.
