Keep things blur-free with these smartphones with OIS
Optical Image Stabilisation, or OIS, is a mechanism implemented to stabilise still images or videos by absorbing small shakes and rattles. In simpler terms, it aims to improve photos and videos by reducing minor shakes that could happen due to various reasons. This mechanism not only improves the quality of images taken from unstable platforms like moving cars but also improves low-light photos as it allowed the shutter to stay open for longer while reducing the blurring. The mechanism got its start in large cameras, but technology has progressed to a point where it has been shrunk down to fit inside a smartphone.
Here’s a look at a few devices that offer OIS. Keep in mind that these devices are selected based on the specifications and features on offer.
Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max
The Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max is the newest smartphone from the Cupertino-based company. The phone features a triple rear camera setup featuring three 12MP sensors with a primary, ultra-wide and telephoto lenses. Apple offers OIS on the primary and telephoto lenses. OIS on a telephoto lens is quite important as any small shake is amplified when zoomed in. The features offered by the camera include a dedicated night mode for taking pictures in low light conditions. Other features of the smartphone include a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display, a 12MP TrueDepth front camera, and IP68 certification for water resistance.
Samsung Galaxy Note 10+
The Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ features a quad-camera setup with a 16MP sensor with an ultra-wide lens, a 12MP sensor with a telephoto lens, and a 12MP primary sensor with a dual-aperture setup. The final camera is a ToF sensor used for gauging depth. Like the iPhone, the Galaxy Note 10+ offers OIS on its primary and telephoto sensors. In addition to OIS, the phone comes with a Super Steady feature that uses software to further reduce vibrations in videos. The phone also features a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED Infinity-O display with a QHD+ resolution. The highlight of the device is the S-Pen that not only works as a stylus but can also be used to control various features of the phone.
OnePlus 7T Pro
The OnePlus 7T Pro is currently the best that the Chinese company has to offer. The phone features a triple rear camera setup with a 48MP+8MP+16MP. As with the previous devices, it too offers OIS on the 48MP primary sensor and the 8MP sensor with the telephoto lens. The phone also comes with the Ultrashot engine tech that promises to improve the quality of the photos taken by the user. The device also comes with a pop-up front-facing camera, and a 6.67-inch QHD+ AMOLED display with 90Hz refresh rate and support for HDR10+ videos.
LG G8X
The LG G8X features a dual-rear camera setup with a 12MP primary camera and a 13MP wide-angle camera, with OIS support on the primary sensor.
However, the biggest highlight of the phone is the dual-screen setup that essentially adds a screen to a cover. This allows for a variety of use cases such as running two different apps on each of the screens or using the second screen as a virtual joystick. The phone also offers a built-in 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC as well as stereo speakers, which should keep audiophiles happy.
