iPhone XI, iPhone XI Max alleged moulds show square-shaped camera module
HIGHLIGHTS

Alleged moulds of the iPhone XI and iPhone XI Max leaked.

The leaked moulds shows a square-shaped camera module.

The moulds corroborate with the design shown in the first renders, which were leaked by OnLeaks and Digit.

The rumoured iPhone XI and iPhone XI Max are expected to have three rear cameras packed in a square-shaped module, alleged moulds of the phones show. The placement of the cameras are exactly at the same spot as they were seen in the first iPhone XI renders that were published by OnLeaks in association with Digit earlier this year. The image of the moulds were leaked by SlashLeaks on Twitter. Not only that, a Twitter user posted an image of the moulds from the front suggesting the presence of a notch. The user says that these are the very basic moulds and likely represent the final design of the phones.

To recall, Digit, in partnership with OnLeaks, published the first exclusive renders of the upcoming iPhone XI back in January. The renders showed a square camera bump at the back of the phone with three camera sensors, a flash and an additional sensor in the bottom right side of the module. If that’s not convincing, SlashLeaks and later tipster IceUniverse as well as Japanese site Macotakara confirmed the leaked renders are indeed correct. However, Makotakara’s leak showed a more symmetrical camera setup.

The triple camera setup in a square housing was previously seen on the Huawei’s Mate 20 Pro. Apple is expected to launch three new iPhones in September 2019 — one low-end variant succeeding the iPhone XR and two high-end variants, succeeding the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max. In February, famous Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that the next iPhone flagships will feature improved Face ID, reverse wireless charging, bigger batteries and a frosted glass casing.

Earlier this month, the analyst sent out a note to investors, reiterating the reverse wireless charging feature and large batteries on this year’s iPhones. Reverse wireless charging on 2019 iPhones could enable them to charge the newly-launched AirPods 2 or even other iPhones wirelessly. According to Kuo, Compeq is will supply Apple with the battery boards, while STMicro will supply the two-way wireless charging controller for the 2019 iPhones.
