Spotify down: Thousands of users unable access music streaming platform
Spotify suffered a global outage on Tuesday evening, leaving users in India and other regions unable to stream music or use key features.
Downdetector recorded over 20,000 complaints, with most users facing server connection and mobile app issues.
Spotify confirmed the problem on X, while users took to social media to share frustrations, with no fix timeline announced.
Spotify users in different parts of the world, including India, have reported disruptions in the service on Tuesday evening, with most being unable to listen to music and access other major functions on the platform. Reports of the problem started emerging at 8:04 PM. Although Spotify has admitted to experiencing the problem, it remains unclear how it occurred and when it will be fixed. The problem has disrupted the listening schedule for most users, especially those who focus on online streaming rather than the downloaded content.
SurveyAs per Downdetector data, most complaints have been related to connection issues with the servers. Approximately 70% of people have encountered issues in connecting to Spotify’s servers, which can be attributed to a problem with the service. About 16 percent of people have complaints concerning the search function, and another 14 percent have issues with the playing function.

Spotify took to X (formerly Twitter) to acknowledge the disruption. Through its official status handle, the company stated, ‘We’re aware of some issues right now and are checking them out!’ However, the company has shared no additional details beyond this.

The number of complaints recorded on Downdetector increased significantly in real time, with numbers soaring above 20,000 across the world. In the US, over 30,000 people were affected in their attempt to access this service.
Mobile users seem to be most impacted by these issues. Nearly 87% of complaints were with regard to Spotify’s mobile application, wherein consumers were dissatisfied with slow loading times or not being able to stream music if they hadn’t downloaded it already. Further, 8% of people were unable to access their accounts, and 4% faced issues in using the web service.

Social media users have been actively sharing their frustrations over the Spotify outage. One Reddit user wrote, ‘I can still listen but can’t search for artists or see my own profile.’ Another user wrote, I found a playlist in my library and queued some songs, but nothing would play. I’m in the US.’

Other than that, many users highlighted more severe issues, with one noting, ‘I can’t even log into the website to set up a new month of premium, so they are having massive problems.’ A user explaining the login difficulties added, ‘I deleted the app to reinstall it, thinking it was a me problem. Now I’m logged out of the app and can’t even get in.’ Meanwhile, the frustration was summed up by another who pleaded, ‘Someone please fix this before I’m left to my own thoughts or coworker conversations.’
