Finally, successor to the Honor 4C?

Huawei’s sub-brand, Honor, is possibly planning a June 22 launch for the Honor 5C. The company has sent out invites for an event on the same day, and while it doesn’t mention the phone, the company’s posts on social media hint that the launch will indeed involve the Honor 5C. Honor has talked about the benefits that its Kirin 650 SoC in the Honor 5C offers, leading to speculations surrounding a possible launch, soon.

The Honor 5C features a 5.2-inch Full HD IPS display, and as mentioned earlier, is powered by an octa-core Kirin 650 SoC with 2GB of RAM. Other features of the smartphone include 13MP and 8MP cameras, and 16GB of onboard storage. Further, the smartphone runs on Android Marshmallow v6.0 with EMUI 4.1 layered over it. It also sports a fingerprint sensor and a 3000mAh battery pack. In China, the device is priced at CNY 899 (approx. Rs. 9,200), and if the company launches it in India at a similar price point, it would face stiff competition from fellow Chinese OEMs and smartphones like the Meizu m3 note and the base variant of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3.

Honor has also been touting the 16nm manufacturing process of the SoC on its social media accounts and claims that the chipset will offer reduced power consumption and superior performance. The Honor 5C isn’t the only device to sport the SoC, as the Huawei P9 Lite also packs the same processor. It will be interesting to see how the Honor 5C stacks, especially considering the array of good budget smartphones recently being launched in India.
