HIGHLIGHTS

The smartphone is expected to sport the Snapdragon 845 chipset, under-display fingerprint sensor, a 5.7-inch OLED display by LG and Android P 9.0 out-of-the-box.

There are a lot of rumours regarding a Nokia flagship smartphone making rounds on the internet and the whispers regarding the phone’s specs and features became louder when the company launched the Nokia 8 Sirocco with aged hardware. The flagship device in question could be the Nokia 9 that is tipped to be the first smartphone ever from HMD Global to house a Snapdragon 845 SoC and an in-display fingerprint sensor. But a latest report from Winfuture has claimed that HMD Global is developing a device under codename “A1 Plus” that has all the features that have been expected in the Nokia 9.

The report, citing some documents, also claimed that apart from the A1 Plus, the device is also being referred internally as "A1P", "AOP" and “A1 Plus Euro” suggesting that the smartphone is being developed keeping in mind the European market. Having mentioned Europe, the report also claims that this smartphone may be launched at the 2018 Internationale Funkausstellung, or 2018 IFA, which will be held from August 31 to September 5 in Berlin. The dates also falls in line with previous reports that claimed a Nokia flagship launch in August-September time.

The Nokia “A1 Plus” (or the Nokia 9) is expected to have a 5.7-inch OLED display supplied by LG and Android P out-of-the-box. Nothing about the camera was revealed but it may come with a dual-lens shooter at the rear and a single camera upfront. Talking about the camera, reports even claimed that HMD Global may launch a phone named “Nokia 8 Pro” with penta-lens system, however, there is no confirmation on the Nokia A1 Plus/9's camera system.

Reports and leaks about two phones “Nokia 8 Pro” and “Nokia 9” started to come up in good volumes after HMD Global launched a total of five new devices at MWC 2018, including one new feature phone. The four new smartphones are the Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 8 Sirocco and Nokia 1. The feature phone is the Nokia 8110 4G.

Nokia 8 Sirocco (review) is the flagship device and is the costliest device that Nokia has to offer. It sports a dual-glass design with a stainless steel frame. The phone uses Gorilla Glass 5 on both sides and the company notes that it comes with IP67 certification for water and dust resistance. The phone comes with a dual-camera setup with 12MP wide-angle lens and a 13MP telephoto lens. It features a 5.5-inch QHD POLED display and is equipped with a 3,260mAh battery. It has 6GB RAM, 128GB storage and is a part of the Android One programme.
